We all strive for job satisfaction. Being in a position where you must work but have no satisfaction in your job is a primary source of stress for many people. If you are in this situation, rest assured that there are other options for job satisfaction and fulfilment that are worth exploring. Here are eight signs that you may be deeply dissatisfied with your job.
1. You are really unhappy doing what you do
Some sure signs of job dissatisfaction are if you dread waking up and heading out to the office, or find yourself needlessly dragging out your breakfast routine. These could be signs that you are avoiding starting your work day.
2. You don’t have the temperament to listen to others
Listening to your supervisors or managers is a necessary and unavoidable part of work, but can get quite frustrating at times. There comes a time in everyone’s life where you just cannot suppress your inner boss anymore.
One of the reasons could be that you may have an independent spirit and may feel encumbered within an office environment or a 9-to-5 job.
3. You feel like you are wasting your life
Sitting at the same desk, in the same place, in the same office, drifting away, slowly, gradually, agonizingly being consumed by the daily routine frequently eats you on the inside. Perhaps you feel shackled to your desk and fear being stuck in the same job for years. It is the unconscious feeling of living in a box that prevents you from thinking out of the box. You may find yourself engaged in a constant debate with yourself over the importance of freedom (to do your own thing) with the necessity of getting a regular paycheck.
4. You keep thinking of other ways to be successful
The “boring” routine in a workplace can get your mind to drift off into dreamland. You may imagine yourself sitting in a CEO’s corner office or being the proud owner of a top restaurant; and if you are not thinking of these scenarios, you may be simply thinking of your dream life. This could also be a sign to start moving towards making those dreams a reality.
5. There are just too many limitations
The typical workplace imposes many limitations and deadlines. No more than 10 holidays a year, no more than 15 minutes for a break in a day, no more than a day and a half on a project. There are just too many demands on us and consequently, our time. A job that makes you irritable AND asks you to comply with policies that may seem odd, may add to your frustrations at work.
6. You are barely living your personal life
You wake up, you spend most of the day at work, you come home, have dinner, and eventually fall asleep… only to repeat the same routine in an endless, repetitive, cycle. And even if, through some miracle, you do get some free time on your hands, it will most probably be running errands.
7. Your patience Is running thin
You may find yourself getting irritable quickly, reacting harshly to minor or small incidents. If you feel like you are legitimately suffocating in your 9-to-5 job, and if you are having trouble remaining patient and optimistic while going through the same day, maybe… just maybe this is not the place for you.
8. You feel zero character growth
While “character-growth” might only sound like something that is used to refer to fictional characters, it can be related to your life and your personality as well. One of the most beautiful phenomena of human life is that we never stop learning and growing, especially mentally.
You learn something new every day, you make new friends, you lose friends, you fall and get back up, you grow as a person over time. But if you feel like you are living the same day over and over and that you’re losing control of your life; you may be missing out a lot on the “growth” aspect of your life.
You do not have to feel stuck in a traditional 9-5, especially if you are unhappy. There are alternatives you can seek to ensure you move from an unhappy state to a state of happiness, feel proud of yourself and your skills.
